Kate Somerville Review

Hello and welcome to another lovely fall Thursday! I have been a huge fan of the Kate Somerville Exfolikate line for a few years now. So I was very excited when she expanded the line to include a moisturizer and knew that I had to try it! After getting my hands on it (finally) and using it for about a month now I figured I would tell you guys my thoughts and feelings! But I wanted to take this post a step further so I decided to review the entire line!

one. cleanser  / two. treatment / three. glow moisturizer  / four. set /

We are going to to start off with the product that first turned me on to this line of products and brand! I had read an article in Allure raving about the ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash and after reading the article I knew I had to try it! In the article it talked about how this cleanser not only rids the skin of oil, makeup and surface impurities it also works to reveal softer, smoother skin. I am always on the hunt for products that are going to help with the texture on my cheeks and nose, so I was super hyped for that aspect of this product.

I was curious though about what ingredients were in this product for exfoliating. Even though my skin is combination I have to be careful about using exfoliants, they tend to dry my skin out and can sometimes cause irritation. When I looked up the ingredients I was happy to find that this product is sulfate free and has a ton of natural ingredients that help to smooth the skin. Some of these include pineapple, pumpkin and papaya enzymes, these products help to exfoliate while keeping the skin soft and conditioned. There are also some chemical exfoliants in the product as well such as AHAs (glycolic acid and lactic acid). Although these would normally dry my skin out (without proper moisturizing) the combination of the chemical and natural exfoliants really leave my skin feeling soft and help to soothe and eliminate my texture.

I have also found that this product is gentle enough to use everyday. Most exfoliating face washes tend to be a tad harsh on the skin, but this one is very gentle and could be used on a daily basis. I tend to use this product more during the warmer months since that is when my skin is the least dry. But I will also use this product during cooler months in the winter and fall, in the morning just to ready my skin for makeup application.

If you are someone who struggles with texture or you just want smoother skin I would definitely recommend this product. It is one of the only face washes that works well with my combo/sensitive skin.

The next product that I tried from this line was the Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. The first time I was ever introduced to this product is when it was 100 point perk at Sephora. One of the employees actually recommended I try it out and for only 100 points I couldn’t pass it up. Just like the face wash this is also a dual action exfoliator. It uses Lactic acid and fruit enzymes (papaya, pineapple and pumpkin) to reveal smooth skin and a brighter, healthier complexion.

This product is said to be the perfect 2 minute facial and I have to agree. I love using it in the shower since the steam helps to activate the ingredients making it more effective. Usually I’ll take about a pea sized amount (a little goes a very long way) and massage it in to my skin for about a minute, then I like to let it sit on the skin for another minute before washing it off. Afterwards my skin feels so smooth and my pores (dare I say it) look a tad smaller and definitely cleaner. I usually add this to my skincare routine about one to two times a week and I find that it has really improved the texture and overall look of my skin.

The one thing I will mention (that could be a negative for some people) is that it has a very strong smell. Im not sure exactly what it is, but to me it smells like Christmas. If I had to pin point it, it smells like a very strong pumpkin spice. I don’t really mind the smell and I kind of like it, but if you are sensitive to smells I would definitely be careful with this product!

Now on to the star of the show (or at least this blog post) the Glow Moisturizer. As soon as I heard about this product I knew that I had to have it, it sounded like something that would be really perfect for my skin. Again with the combined powers of AHAs (Glycolic and Lactic Acids) with the Pineapple, Pumpkin and Papaya Enzymes this product reduces the appearance of surface dullness and uneven skin texture to reveal beautiful, glowing skin.

I think I have finally found my perfect moisturizer! This product has made my skin look so much healthier and has really helped reduce the texture on my skin. I use it day and night and have found that the more I use it the more I love it! The constancy is a cross between a gel and a cream which means it is light weight enough to not clog my pores while still providing enough moisture through out the day. I have also found that makeup sits very well on top of it (even without a primer). I think this is partially to do with the constancy of the product itself and the fact that it has smoothed my skin out so much.

Here is my one disclaimer to you, if you are someone who does not use a lot of AHAs on your skin go easy with this product to start. I have used lactic acid before (in the form of Good Genes from Sunday Riley) so my skin has built up almost a tolerance to it. But even when I first started using this product it tingled a little bit. After a few uses it has stopped but I know when products do that in can be a little discomforting. Not to worry though that is a normal reaction to AHAs. I would recommend to start out by using this product once daily and then once your skin has started getting used to the ingredients you can use it more. Obviously if the tingling doesn’t stop or if you have any reactions to this product you should stop using it! I would even go to Sephora and ask for a sample to ensure you like it and don’t have any reactions to it.

Overall this line of products is one of my faves! No matter how many new products I try these will always be part of my skincare rotation. The improvement they have made in the texture of my skin and the overall appearance is proof enough to me that these products are the real deal! I think if you struggle with texture or dullness I would definitely check these out. So head into your local Sephora and ask for a sample! Or you can head over to Kate Somerville’s website (they are currently doing a free gift of all three of these products) and check out the line there!

If you have tried any of these products let me know what your thoughts are or which one is your favorite! I would love to hear if you guys love these products as much as I do!

xoxo Mel
