So as you guys probably guessed from the title I have decided to do the second installment in my monthly makeup bag series. Like I mentioned in my first post (here) my recent declutter videos on our youtube channel have really opened my eyes to the amount of makeup in my collection that I don’t utilize. I have really been doing my best to shop my stash and use products that I wouldn’t normally use on a daily basis. I am kinda over the surplus of product that I have accumulated over the last few years and I have really been trying to cut back. I have a few friends that I pass along product too as well as things that I have never used either get sold here or donated. I feel like in the last few years, especially since starting the blog, I have been stuck in this mind set that I needed to have this insane collection of products to be successful. This obviously isn’t the case and I have been doing my best to stop the craziness of over indulging.
Which Is why for the entire month of December I have been on a beauty no-buy. There were really two reasons for this, one because of the above mentioned (which I’m sure your sick of hearing about) and two a lot of my family members buy me beauty products for Christmas. I was surprisingly successful in my no-buy, the only beauty product I purchased was actually a present for Lyn. Which made shopping my stash this month even more exciting, I could feel myself craving the rush of trying out new products.
So lets get on with it:
NARS Daul Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia $29 is the first product I knew I wanted to include in this months bag. This was a staple in my makeup routine for along time before I started buying eyeshadow palettes. Its a beautiful multi dimensional taupe shade, that looks good either in the crease to define the eye or all over the lid. This product is super pigmented but still easy to work with and blend, which is one of the reasons why I love using this product. I also love how versatile it is and I can’t believe that I forgot about it for so long. This will definitely be a wonderful addition to this bag since I have been loving a minimal and simple eye look recently. My goal for this product is to hopefully put some kind of dent in it and also keep incorporating it into my everyday makeup again.
First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Bouncy Mask $38 this is one of my favorite face masks especially during the winter time. Two of my favorite things about this mask is its nourishing and calming properties. Sometimes my skin can be a little finicky when it comes to testing out new products so this mask comes in handy during those time. I have had this mask for awhile so I’m hoping to use it up this month and then totally repurchase a new one!
Marc Jacobs Tan-Tastic! Bronzer $49 is a product that I was totally talked into buying because of all the hype around it. Sure its a nice bronzer and the shade is pretty good for my skin tone but the price tag was insanely high. I have a ton of other bronzers that I reach for more often then this one. So I decided to include it in this months bag to finally get some good use out of it. Please someone remind me next time I try to buy a bronzer that I 100% don’t need it…. Anyway my goal for this product is to hopefully at least hit pan somewhere and start adding it into my bronzer rotation more often.
Glossier Stretch Concealer $18 I for some reason or another hoard concealers. So I decided to include a different one in each of my monthly makeup bags. This Glossier one just happens to be the one I chose for this bag. I actually really like this product for the winter months since it is super hydrating. It really reminds me on the NARS soft matte concealer just with less coverage. Its super lightweight so if you have dry under eyes this might be perfect for you. The only thing that is slightly a negative about this product is that if you don’t set it it will crease, which is why I don’t use it everyday. But thats definitely not a deal breaker for me since all concealer creases on my under eyes. Im actually hoping to pan this product or use it up. I do really like it but I want to make space in my collection for some new products.
First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer $28 one of my all time favorite priming moisturizers or really just moisturizes in general. This creates so a beautiful smooth canvas for makeup application and has been a staple in my collection for a while now. Im including it this month because I have had it for almost over a year and I would love to use it up so that I can repurchase a new tube.
Origins A Perfect World Eyes Cream $39 I bought this product over the summer when the whole UV protecting line from origins came out. I had never seen an eye cream that claimed to protect against pollution and UV rays so I was very intrigued. Its a pretty nice eye cream that hydrates and brightens the under eyes but I didn’t see anything magical happen when using it. After a month or so it got pushed to the back of my skincare drawer and I kind of forgot about it. Im hoping to use this product up as well and start emptying out my jungle of skincare.
It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil $24 again I have so many brow products, why does someone need this many brow products? The answer to this question is they definitely don’t need them, or at least they don’t need more then one or two. I actually got this product in a freebie bag from an Ulta order earlier in the year. It’s pretty nice and very creamy but the thick applicator is a little challenging to maneuver. I’m defiantly hoping to use this up and finally start getting rid of some of my brown products.
Monthly Makeup Bag Part One Recap:
Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer actually broke me out so bad…. I’m not sure if it was past its prime and to old to be using. But after using it for about a week I started getting these horrible breakouts and these little red bumps all over my skin. Last time I used this product this definitely didn’t happen so I’m not sure what is really going on. But I decided to put it in my discard pile.
NARS Liquid Laguna Bronzer I have found my new holy grail bronzing product. I am actually obsessed with this and I cant believe it took me so long to start appreciating this product. It has moved into my everyday makeup drawer so I’ll definitely keep getting use out of it.
Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer was the worst concealer I have ever used in my life…. Okay maybe thats a tad dramatic. But I found the formula to be way tow watery, it didn’t give me any coverage. And worst of all even when I set it with powder it would crease and make my mascara run. I decided to toss this product as well, it just wasn’t worth the hassle any more.
Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream is still one of my go to eye creams and will continue to be so. Its just a good basic hydrating product for under the eyes. I did put a good dent in this one which was my goal so I am very happy with that.
Trish McEvoy Eyeshadow Sticks in Smokey Quartz and Rose Quartz these were a tad disappointing for such a lux brand. The rose quartz didn’t work for my skin tone at all, you could hardly see the color at all and all that was left were these chunky glitters. The smokey quartz was a little better the color was really pretty on the lid but it creased horribly so I’m a little torn.
