Welcome back to the second installment in my best of series. This week we are going to chat about some of my favorite light weight lip formulas. For me a light weight lip is something that moisturizes but still gives a nice bit of pigment or color to the lips. I’m a low maintenance kind of girl when it comes to lip products. I have never been a big fan of the matte liquid lip trend so I am excited that we have seen brands start to release other types of formulas. Now lets get into the products…
To start off I want to chat about the Dior Lip Glow in Coral. This is the newest edition to my lightweight lip collection but it has easily become one of my faves. The description for this product is a sheer balm that helps to moisturize and protect the lips. I definitely agree with this statement, since I bought it, it has been traveling with me everywhere as my go to lip balm. When you apply it to the lips it immediately hydrates with out feeling sticky or heavy & like you just slathered Vaseline on your lips. (does this bother anyone else LMK)
But my favorite thing about this lip product is that it actually adapts in color to your natural lip color. I love products that change to an individuals coloring, for some reason I am just so intrigued by this technology. This particular shade gives my lips a nice sheer layer of peachy tint that makes them look plump and shiny. Normally I am not a fan of peach based lip shades (I’m more of a neutral girl) but as soon as I swatched this I feel in love with the way it looked on my lips (peep my glowy skin tutorial to see it in action). Next on my list I really want to try out the newest shade Ultra Pink.
I’m realizing now that a lot of these lip products are more on the luxury side. so I apologize for that but next up is the YSL Tint in Balm in 1 Dream Me Nude. This was the OG light weight lip product of the bunch we are discussing today. When I bought this I was looking for something that would give me a nice wash of color while still hydrating my lips. The description of this product is that it combines a nourishing balm with a hint of a tint. Which sounded like the best combination for what I was looking for at the time. As formula goes it does give an immediate veil of moisture but once it dries or wears off it doesn’t give my lips a prolonged hydrated feeling like the Dior product does. Which isn’t necessarily bad thing, it is just different. I still love this formula because of the glassy look it gives to the lips and the immediate hydrated feeling it gives.
But the thing that made me fall in love the most with this product is the tint of color. Of course when I purchased this product I went for the Nude shade (is anyone really surprised) which has this beautiful neutral undertone that enhances the natural color of your lips. It is definitely a very sheer formula, but it gives off a beautiful shine. Its definitely a “your lips but better” shade. Next up I have my eyes on the shades 10 Seduce Me Pink and 6 Touch Me Red (definitely stepping out my comfort zone a little bit at a time).
On to a more affordable option, the Glossier Generation G Lipstick in Cake. It took me a really long time to finally give in and purchase one of these lipsticks. I kept hearing mixed reviews about these, that they weren’t pigmented enough and that the formula was dry. But then I saw one of my favorite bloggers Allana Davison talk about them and it finally convinced me to give it a try. I’m not sure why I was so concerned about the “lack of pigment” that these supposedly had, because that is usually the type of product that is right up my alley. Now the Glossier website describes the formula as a “just blotted” type of lipstick. Which I completely agree with, it gives a nice subtle tint. The formula also feels like you aren’t wearing anything on the lips, which I actually really enjoy. Now this is more of a matte formula so it doesn’t give that glassy look to the lips like the first two products mentioned. But sometimes its good to mix it up every once in awhile right? The website also claims that the lipsticks “adapt to you” some of my favorite words recently. I have just really been loving this trend recently!
The final product that I want to talk about is the Giorgio Armani Beauty Ecstasy Shine Lipsticks in the shades 101 and 602. These are my go to lip products when I have an event to go to or I am going out somewhere for the night. They are definitely the most pigmented of the bunch while still being moisturizing on the lips. But where the first two products have more of a balm like texture this product has a silky formula that glides onto the lips effortlessly. It is described as a high shine lip color that delivers intense pigment in one swipe. It definitely gives the lips a beautiful shine to the lips but its doesn’t look overly glassy like the YSL product. Its the perfect in-between.
The first shade that found its way into my collection was 602 a beautiful plum (definitely different for me). I first picked this shade because I wanted to pick something that was a little bit different then everything else I have in my collection and I was pleasantly surprised. I normally don’t go for vibrant lip colors but this shade gives you this beautiful bright purple/pink tint to the lips. It has become a staple in my collection and my go to for nights out on the town. After I completely fell in love with this shade and formula I knew I had to pick it up in a nude color for everyday. So I decided on the shade 101 which is a neutral nude (of course) that again enhances your natural lip color.
I wanted to quickly mention the Lancome Matte Shaker in Completely Nut. This isn’t as light weight as the previously mentioned products and it is defiantly way more pigmented. But it is a beautiful formula that is more like a tint then a full on matte lipstick. If you are someone who wants more color to your lips and something matte I would highly recommend this product!
So that was it for my second installment in the Best of series. I hope you guys enjoyed, and let me know if you have any favorite light weight lip products!
